  • Coffee Chats: optional, but highly recommended (8/26 - 9/9)

    • Coffee chats will be offered until next Tuesday, September 9th. Coffee chats are a great way to understand what we do and learn more about individual caseworkers. These are casual, non-evaluative meetings. You may sign up here.

  • Info Sessions: optional, but highly recommended (Slides)

    • Info Session #1: Friday, August 28th, 8-10pm (VLSB 2060)

    • Info Session #2: Friday, September 4th, 8-10pm (Hearst Field Annex A1)

    • VITA Info Session: Tuesday, September 8th, 8-10pm (VLSB 2040)

  • Application Workshop Q&A: optional, but highly recommended

    • A drop-in event designed to give applicants a place to ask questions about clinic and chat with caseworkers! These are non-evaluative.

  • Immigration KYR Event: optional, but a highly recommended chance to learn more about immigration law and practices from seasoned professionals

FAQS

  • No, we have no formal pre-law requirement and we encourage students of all majors to apply. Many of our caseworkers are following a pre-law track, but others are pursuing other paths (e.g., pre-med, computer science, etc.)

  • Legal experience is not a prerequisite for becoming a caseworker at the clinic. Most of our caseworkers join without direct prior experience. We provide comprehensive training to ensure caseworkers are well-prepared for their responsibilities. Additionally, a supportive team of experienced returning caseworkers is always available to offer guidance and mentorship.

  • The clinic seeks individuals passionate about service, dedicated to helping others, and committed to working hard to make a difference. We value a strong sense of purpose and a willingness to contribute to a supportive, mission-driven environment.

  • The recruitment process is fairly competitive, but we strongly encourage everyone to apply. We welcome applicants from all majors and academic years (including transfer students). While strong resumes and applications are valuable, we recruit candidates who demonstrate a genuine passion for our work and community.

  • In the fall, we train our caseworkers in both legal research and tax preparation. After being accepted into the Clinic, we have a mandatory caseworker training where we show new members the processes and relevant resources for legal research. New Caseworker Training is mandatory for all new caseworkers. Later in the semester, we have tax training that support clinic members in obtaining their VITA certifications for the spring tax season.

  • No, there are no membership fees or dues required to be a member of the Clinic.

  • We require a minimum of 5 hours per week (3 office hours, 1 hour of weekly general meetings, and 1-2 hours of weekly training). Some weeks may require more time than others, depending on whether you are assigned a legal research case.
